Weekly review August 22, 2011

Hi gang!  I plan to start a feature every Sunday or Monday evening reviewing the last projects from the previous week (the little odds and ends that didn't merit their own article) and giving a preview of the week to come.  So here's this week's list.

The last odds and ends from last week are:
ACW Confederate Brigade #1.  Once again from Scale Creep Miniatures with flag by Cotton Jim.

Okay, I know their bases aren't done yet.  Unfortunately, I need to order some more flocking material, and my FLGS has stopped carrying all but GW static grass.  I'm not going to pay $9 for 1/4 of a container of flocking.

Tutorial: How I Paint Starships

Commenter Desert Scribe, in the comments section of my August 14 post, requested that I do a tutorial showing how I paint my starships.  Ideally I would have done this with some Aquan cruisers.  Unfortunately the Gaming Room remodel has run over budget (what project doesn't?) so I'll be waiting on the Aquan cruisers until next month at least.

In the mean time, I thought I'd do an article showing you how I turn these:

Firestorm Armada ships and The Iron Brigade

As promised yesterday here are a few pictures of my recently completed minis.  I put the finishing touches on my Firestorm Armada Aquans this morning.  I just added as Battle Carrier, a Heavy Cruiser, and six Mine Escorts.  Here are some pictures. (any advice on improving these would be appreciated)

The whole fleet.

The Battleship.

The Battle Carrier.

The Carrier and its escorts.

A side view of the CV.

The Heavy Cruiser and its escorts.

The Cruiser Squadron.

The two frigate squadrons.

The capital ships all together.

Firestorm Armada isn't the only thing I'm working on.  Here are some pictures of my 90% finished Iron Brigade.  All they need is flocking.  If you look closely you will see my next brigade (my first confederates) in the background.

The figures are from Scale Creep Miniatures and the flags are those of the 6th Wisconsin Volunteers by Cotton Jim's Flags.

Hope you enjoyed.  Feel free to comment below.

What I'm doing this week.

Alright, now that the obligatory introduction is out of the way it's time for my first real post.  My current projects entail.

1.) Remodeling the basement into a fully functional gaming room.
This one has been a long time in coming.  Previously our basement was mostly a junk storage area that looked a little like something out of hoarders.  I had a kitchen size table down there with a War Zone Terrain 4'x6' foldable tabletop on it.  A couple weeks ago we got all of the junk out of the basement.  I've also begun searching for a good storage system for my pile 'o lead.  More on that later.  The next step will be building a new purpose built gaming table.  I have plans to work on that this coming week.

2.) 15mm American Civil War.
This is a rebirth of an old interest.  In the early '90's our group was big into Fire and Fury.  I was in college at the time, so while I found time to play the game, I never found the time to paint up an army.  Recently, Tad (one of the gang) and I pulled out his ACW stuff for a couple games.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it.  I immediately ordered a couple of brigade packs from Scale Creep Miniatures and got painting.  I finished my first brigade (the Iron Brigade--see my location) a week ago, and am starting on my first confederate brigade.  Pictures to follow.

3.)  Firestorm Armada.
Gaming pal John and I have been getting in a few games of Firestorm Armada recently.  I've got an Aquan Starter Fleet finished, but wanted to add some variety, so I need to finish up my new ships, 6 Mine Escorts, 1 Heavy Cruiser, and 1 Battle Carrier.  These are mostly done, just need a couple highlights.

Other potential projects include: 15mm Flames of War early war germans, a new Barbarian character for Warhammer Quest, and a squad of Striking Scorpions for my Warhammer 40k Eldar.

It's going to be a busy week.

Greetings

Hello!  Welcome to GoinGaming, my little corner of the web.  I've decided I'd finally join the e-revolution to share my love of my hobby, miniature wargaming, with the world.  In the following posts I'll share with you my projects of the moment as I move cat like from one shiny game to the next.  I hope you'll join me to keep me motivated in my painting, and maybe even find a little inspiration of your own.
